A Word from Sal

Hello and welcome,

Ever since I can remember, I have had a deep inclination to help others and by deep, I mean at a soul level. I believe we all have a soul-calling or a deep passion which resides within our hearts. It’s part of being human. However, we do not always act on these deep inclinations and slowly they often become buried. I know because I ignored this soul-calling for a long time before I began to act toward helping others. Why…why do we ignore our heart’s desires? I cannot answer this question for you as there are many different reasons for everyone, however the quote below describes what was preventing me to live my life to the fullest.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

—Marianne Williamson

Who am I (what makes me so special)? How can an average guy like me help others? I have my own life struggles to deal with so shouldn’t I wait until I have the ‘perfect life’ before I start leading others? Shouldn’t I wait until I am regarded by most as a ‘guru’? These are the kind of thoughts/beliefs that discouraged me from following my dreams. So how did I overcome this kind of thinking?

In my book, One Habit At A Time, I fully describe the meaning, importance and power of mindfulness. When you learn to meditate (enter into a mindful state of being), it becomes much easier to disempower such questions. They slowly begin to lose their validity and their hold over you. Why? These questions arise from a place of darkness such as fear. When you are truly mindful, you are in a place of light (hence the term enlightened). It is like you are holding up a huge flash light on these dark thoughts. Therefore, any questions (thoughts, beliefs, etc.) which arise from a place of darkness are brought to light and vanish just like the monsters in the closet do when mom or dad turns on the light.

Now here is how I shed my mindfulness light on the questions I struggled with. We are all special and have unlimited potential therefore there is no such thing as an average person. Life is full of struggles (challenges) and overcoming them is how we grow, therefore, I plan on struggling (developing myself) for the rest of my life. I (or anyone) do not have to be regarded as a ‘guru’ to help others. Any man, woman or child can serve humanity for the better and it happens countless times each day. Perhaps, after many years of constructive service, I will be regarded as a ‘guru’ but this will not make any difference in what it is that my heart longs to do. Even though my ego may love to hear such a title by my name, what drives me comes from deep within my being. Such ego needs are weak and devoid of any real meaning or passion. Therefore, having such a title will not make me a better person or leader.

You see how simple this can be? Remember, truth is as simple as turning on the lights. How powerful is that?

So what is your soul-calling? What is your dream? What are you deeply passionate about? Are you living your dream life? Are you fully expressing your passion or does it lie dormant within your heart?

Some of you may be asking; “I thought this blog was about holistic health?” “What does my dream and mindfulness have to do with holistic health?”

Well, as you will discover reading this blog, all of our choices affect our health. Even the choices which you may think are completely irrelevant. Over the years, I have learned that there is much more to health than just doing push-ups and eating vegetables. The word holistic means all-encompassing which includes the body, mind and spirit. And you would be amazed at how often one or more of these 3 vital aspects are, to one degree or another, neglected in peoples’ lives. For this reason…

I look forward to delving deeper into the topics of body, mind and spirit with you on this blog so you will understand how to fully implement them to enrich your life.

I also look forward to sharing my authentic passion for holistic health and responding to all of your questions and comments.

And finally, I look forward to living my dream and inspiring you to live yours!

My mission is to enrich peoples’ lives by increasing their awareness, understanding and implementation of holistic health through the use of simple and practical educational means.
